This interesting property is located in the middle of a city block in Zwolle and proposed is a small town within a town. The main entrance is hidden, through a former storage unit inbetween remaining units you enter an ensemble of three houses that step down in size from high and dens to low and open. They are surrounding a court yard and through their size and pitched roofs they are letting sunlight enter the garden. The houses are accessible from two other sides of the city block and are positioned around the patio that serves as a focal point from inside the ensemble. The result is an inward-looking world, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The existing barn that was one of the three houses of the ensemble we designed in Zwolle turned out to have a worse foundation than we knew and needs to be rebuilt. This changes the budget for the other two houses and therefore the scope of the project. Time to rethink things through. Back to the drawing board.
